Midea products have been well recognized all over the world as we’ve seen their air conditioner units available for decades. They often pack a host of performance features at attractive price points as compared to similar products on the market. In this review, we are checking out the new Midea EasyCool 3-in-1 portable AC (model number MAP08R1CWT) which is available on Amazon for just over $300.
Disclosure: We received the air conditioner in exchange for the review. We spent time testing it to make sure the review is honest and unbiased.
The Midea EasyCool is a 3-in-1 machine which you can use as an air conditioner, a fan, or a dehumidifier. Of course, most people would use its air conditioning or dehumidifying. Specifically, the product measures 13.6″ x 14.3″ x 27.6″ and weighs over 53 lbs. Fortunately, it has handles on the 2 sides so we can lift easily; Besides, there are 4 casters on the bottom, so you can move it between different rooms effortlessly.
Inside the box, you can find all accessories to install the AC. Basically, you will just need to set up the adjustable slider on your window; It works with both sliding and double-hang windows, just make sure the opening ranges from 19.4″- 62.2″. The final step is to connect the exhaust hose from the machine to the hole on the slider.
You can control the machine using the control panel on top or the remote control. You can switch among 3 operating modes that go from Cool, Fan, and Dry, then use the Up (+) and Down (-) buttons to adjust temperature settings. The temperature can be set within a range of 62-86 Fahrenheit degrees. The Constant Fan button is used to turn on the fan continuously even when the compressor stops. The remote control offers some more controls like fan speed, sleep mode, timer, or follow me. The follow me function will use the temperature at remote control’s location instead of the AC’s.
The air inlets and outlet are placed on the back of the machine. There is an air filter that needs to be cleaned once or twice per month. There are also an upper drain outlet and a lower drain outlet. The lower drain outlet is used to drain water from the bottom tray. When you use the machine in cool or dehumidifying mode, the water is collected in the bottom tray; The machine will stop working and then the display will show P1 when the tray is full. The tray is not removable, so I must move the whole unit to a drain location, then remove the bottom cap and plug to let water drain away.
The machine is designed for spaces up to 150 sq ft, so I tested it in the smallest room in my house, which is an 160-sq-ft bedroom. This seems to be a stretch for this portable AC but it does a good job in my test. The cool air is blown out from the front and you can adjust the horizontal and vertical louver control manually to change airflow direction. The Midea AC has the cooling capacity of 8,000 BTU / 5,300 SACC. I tested it on some 90-degree days and it could drop the room temperature by 7-8 degrees after just 1 hour. I often set the temperature between 75-79 degrees and it takes about 3 hours to come down to this range.
In terms of operation noise, the noise level is measured at around 60 dB which is equivalent to the noise from my dishwasher and robot vacuum. This is not too loud but also not as quiet as I expected.
Overall, the Midea EasyCool Portable air conditioner is a great machine and it works well in both of the air conditioning and air dehumidifying functions. My only concern is that it is a little inconvenient to empty the water collection tray. If you don’t mind this problem, the Midea is totally worth considering during these hot summer days.
